Journal on OIP in China - Day 35 & 36

Day 35 April 7

This morning, as usual I woke up at 6.30am to do laundry and washed up. Although today, there wasn’t any lesson to be attended, however there was an event held at 8am sharp. It was originally organized by the school. Later, at about 7.30am plus, my group and I walked down to the nearby canteen, Canteen 2 for having our light breakfast. By the time when we reached the canteen, we saw Miss Lisa was sitting in front of the stalls and having her breakfast as well. After we bought our breakfast, it was getting almost to 7.50am and all of us were waiting for Miss Lisa to finish her breakfast before we made a move together. After Miss Lisa had taken her breakfast, we made a move together and walked out of the canteen. As we were walking along, we saw our lecturer, Mr Chua and he told us that we were supposed to meet at 8am sharp for the event to start. Since most of the groups were being late and I found that it was pointless to reach by ourselves as the instructors had to wait for all of us before the event could be started. Then, at about 8.15am, we walked to the area that called “Ming Zhu Chun”, Ming Zhu Village. It was the place that we used to have a barbeque session with the local students during the 4th week of Sunday. So when we went in, it was almost half of our class had not reached the place yet. So about 15 minutes later, all of us had reached and we been told to form a circle to play a small game. The game that we played was come with 3 different signals for the trees and squirrel to escape from the fire. The first signal was the squirrel escape but the trees not moving, and the second signal was the trees moving but the squirrel not moving, lastly followed by all of squirrel and trees moved at the same time. After we had played, I saw there was another batch of students of Ngee Ann Polytechnic coming and they were the same people who I met before during every trip in Wuhan. Then, all of us including the different batch of students were divided into four groups before we could proceed to our first session. Later, after we had formed our groups, the first session that we did was to make the tank’s conveyor belt by using 3 sets of newspapers. And the conveyor belt that we made, it had to be connected without leaving any gap in between. So each of us in our group had to think and came out with different solutions with the given time of 20 minutes by the instructors. After 20 minutes had passed, we were managed to accomplish our task objective. And we began to have a race with other groups by using our work. As the result, we won in the second position unexpectedly. At about 11.15am, we were dismissed to have our lunch. Then, we were been told by our lecturer, Mr Chua that we must report back to the same meeting place by 1.15pm. Next, my group and I were on our way to Canteen 2 for having lunch together with some students that not from our division, ECE. As we were walking along, we saw Mr Ma was sitting inside the hotel building at the ground level and asked him regarding to his legs as his legs were felt to be quite painful whenever he tried to walk. After hearing what he told us, I was glad that he was alright currently. Otherwise he might have the difficulty to walk if his legs were still in painful condition. Next, after seeing Mr Ma, we walked to the Canteen 2 for having lunch there. There were almost 15 of us as it was the first time that we had lunch together with other people or students. After had taken our lunch, we went back to the hostel with other students as they were requested to have a look at our hostel. By the time when we got in, they felt that it was so envy that we had such an nice hostel to live during these 6 weeks since their hostel was not really good than ours. What most of them told us that the hostel they were staying, there was not even have a television set which allowed them to watch during their stay and their beds were come with double decked, unlike ours were in single deck. At about 1.10pm, we walked down from our hostel room and went to report back at the meeting place. Then about 1.30pm, we were continued on our adventure sessions. There were 2 sessions that we had in the afternoon. The first that we played was to match the requirement of items quantity. And second, we were played on climbing sessions. After we had played those two sessions, we proceeded to rock-climbing session together with other 3 groups. As we were playing until 6pm, the session for the whole day was ended with our thanks as the small appreciation to the local instructors. Later, my group members, Siew Bo, Shaoming and I went to have our dinner together at the usual place. After that, we went back to our hostel and continued on doing our homework. As for today, it wasn’t much to be observed. However I had learnt on the value of teamwork bonding through the session. Without it, we couldn’t manage to get in the second position during the race event. Else, we might get in the last position if we didn’t corporate on one another well. Despite that, having teamwork allowed us to accomplish our objectives successfully. Not only that, I also had gained some experiences through this session. The experiences that I gained from were sky falling and rock-climbing. This was my first time as I didn’t experience them before since I was in secondary and in ITE. I was glad that I had the opportunity to experience them during OIP in China.

Whats up there?

Mr Ma & Mr Chua

Day 36 April 8

Today I woke up at 7.30am plus to do wash up and got myself prepared for APPG mini-project interview with Mr Ma at 9am. However, there was no lesson to conduct for whole day since only left interview to be conducted in the morning. At about 8.30am, I left from the hostel room and went down to have my breakfast at Canteen 1. As usual, I was ordered a cup of soya milk and some morning snack bites. After that, I walked out of the canteen and headed to the classroom. By the time when I reached the classroom outside, there was no one there except Mr Ma and I. After I got inside the classroom, I was the first person to attend the APPG mini-project interview by Mr Ma. Then, I immediately started my presentation. It was about 15 minutes for the presentation. At about 10.15am, my group members had come and they were given their presentation after one another. After all of us had presented, Siew bo, Shaoming and I went to have our early lunch at Canteen 4. When we reached the canteen, it was seemed to be so quiet and there were not much people as compared to other canteens. After had our lunch, we went back to our hostel to take our rest and continued on doing our homework. Until we did about 8.20pm, we 3 of us went out to have dinner at the usual place. As for today, it wasn’t pretty much to be observed. However, I learnt that time management played an important role as we had to manage our time for both our studies and leisure during these few days in China.
